Common Water Heater Repair Issues

Common Water Heater Repair Issues

Do You Need Water Heater Repair?

Your water heater is out of sight, and generally out of your mind. It’s an appliance you don’t think about or check on very often as long as it works. When you have water on demand, it doesn’t need your attention. However, the water heater is a mechanical unit that needs maintenance to function properly. If you are having issues with your water heater, it’s best to let a professional put water heater repair into effect. Some of the issues with a water heater can be resolved without professionals, but to be safe, contact Pete Fer & Son for help. Here are some of the most common water heater problems you can run into.

Problem 1: Too Little Hot Water

If your hot water heater isn’t giving you water that is hot enough, or it turns cold too soon, you can fix this by turning the temperature on the thermostat up. Be careful in doing this and don’t turn the temperature up too high too fast or you could scald someone in your house.

Problem 2: No Hot Water At All

If you don’t get hot water at all any time you turn any of your faucets on, you might have a pilot light that has gone out. It could also be a faulty thermocouple or heating element that needs to be replaced. These jobs are relatively easy but should be done by a professional.

Problem 3: Smelly Water

If your water stinks, your hot water heater probably has bacteria in it that makes a bad odor. You can flush the tank out and give it a few hours before flushing it with clean water. If the water still has an odor, call a professional to get to the root of the issue.

Problem 4: Noise Issues

If your hot water heater is making noise, it might be a sign that problems are coming. The heating element could be burning sediment because you haven’t gotten maintenance on the unit for a while. This could eventually burn things out and might require a replacement. But if you have a plumber come in, take a look and clean things out, it could prevent future issues.

Problem 5: Leaking Tank

Once your water heater starts to leak, water heater repair isn’t something you can get and it’s also not something you want to ignore. You don’t want gallons after gallons of water to drain into your basement so getting a new water heater should be at the top of your list.
