One of the most neglected parts of maintaining your air conditioner is the filter. The air filter in your air conditioner needs to be changed at least once per month. It’s the part of you air conditioner that’s catching all the dirt, dust, and mold from going into the rest of the system, which is super important, because all of these things can interfere with the inner workings of your system, causing it to run inefficiently, and eventually break. If you want to keep your air conditioner from breaking in the first place, you need to start with a filter.

2. Clean it Thoroughly

Cleaning your air conditioner consistently is an important part of maintaining your unit, to the point where a good cleaning might be the only thing that’s needed to make the unit run again. If you want to make sure that you’re up to date on your HVAC maintenance, make sure that the unit is clean and doesn’t have any dirt, dust, or mold on the inside or outside of it. This is also the perfect time for you to check to make sure that that filter is still in working order. For the most part, air conditioners start to get dirty when their filter is worn out, so if you need to clean the unit in the first place, there’s a good chance that you also need to clean it.

3. Check the Breaker

Have you checked your breaker? If your unit isn’t show any signs of life at all, there’s a good chance that the breaker has been tripped. If there some other things that won’t work in your house, such as your refrigerator or certain lights, the first place that you need to check is your breaker. This is going to save you a lot of time and money, so make sure that this the first thing that you check when you are having air conditioner issues.

If you want to make sure that you’re doing everything that you can to keep your air conditioner repaired, you need to have a basic understanding of what makes it work. Preventing the buildup of dirt, dust, and mold is by far the most important part of maintaining your air conditioner. You can do this by cleaning it every month and replacing the filter. Also, before you call out a repair person, make sure that the breaker hasn’t been tripped. If you do all of these things, you might find an easy fix for your air conditioning unit.
